There’s something about fresh sage that’s just so homey and warming.
I don’t use it nearly enough for the amount of joy it brings me.
It’s a necessity for fall cooking.
These sausages and apples are one of my favorite ways to switch up breakfast in the morning. It’s an especially unique way to enjoy breakfast without any refined carbs.
This is a quintessential sweet and savory meal, perfect for a cozy morning, or as a side dish to an entire Saturday morning breakfast spread.
Sage Sausage and Apples Fall Recipe
Serves: 2 - 4
Ingredients:
1 pound ground pork
¾ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
⅛ teaspoon red chili flakes
¾ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
2 teaspoons fresh sage, finely chopped
2 teaspoons maple syrup
4 apples, cored and sliced (peel them if you’d like)
½ teaspoon cinnamon
What To Do:
Mix pork, salt, pepper, red chili flakes, pumpkin pie spice, fresh sage, and maple syrup in a bowl. Combine well and form into 10-12 patties ½ inch thick.
On a skillet over medium-high heat, cook your sausages for 3-4 minutes per side until they become brown, crispy, and cooked through. Remove from pan and set aside.
In the same pan, add apples and sprinkle with the cinnamon. Cook until the apples are just becoming soft, about 8 minutes.
Place sausage back in skillet to reheat them and mix to combine well with the apples.
Serve alone or as a side dish for other breakfast items, and enjoy!!!
